Overview
Through Butte County Office of Education, schools and districts have the unique opportunity to benefit from direct, deliberate support that is customized to individual district needs.  Holly Ahmadi and Rindy DeVoll, coordinator for Butte County Office of Education, offer various services that aid schools and districts in meeting their goals for this unique population.

Curriculum Support
Butte County Office of Education provides schools and districts with curriculum support in the areas of all core subjects, including ELD instruction for English learners.  We offer support for intervention materials and are available to assist schools with the implementation of K-12 curriculum and resources for English learners.  We provide program evaluation services that allow schools and districts to analyze their EL program effectiveness and offer feedback regarding action steps to increase EL student achievement.

Network
Attend one of our ELD Network Meetings where teachers and administrators from around the county and the region come to hear the latest information regarding state and federal EL policy.

CELDT (California English Language Development Test)
The purpose of the CELDT is to identify new students who are English Learners, determine their level of English proficiency, and annually assess their progress toward becoming fluent English proficient. The CELDT covers four skills areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. It is administered in grades K-12. Butte County Office of Education offers the following:

  • data analysis
  • training for site test administrators
  • staff development targeted to instruction at individual CELDT levels

Title III

  • Aid districts in the use of the English Learner Subgroup Self-Assessment (ELSSA) designed to help schools prepare or make changes in their LEA Plan
  • Data analysis and support for schools working to meet AMAO's
  • Intense support for districts that are required to create the Title III Year 2 Improvement Plan Addendum and Year 4 Action Plan

CTEL Test Preparation for Teachers Needing EL Authorization
California teachers that require EL authorization are now mandated to take the California Teachers of English Learners Test (CTEL).  Butte County Office of Education offers a 40-hour preparation class for this assessment which informs teachers as to the subject matter of the exam and outlines test taking strategies to support teachers in this endeavor.
