Dr. Robert W. Purvis - President

Robert is one of three Trustees of Area 1 (Chico), and has been a member of the Butte County Board of Education since 1996. He has been involved in education since 1961, and was Superintendent of the Chico Unified School District. He is married, has three children and eight grandchildren

Brenda J. McLaughlin - Vice President

Brenda is the Trustee of Area 4 (Biggs, Durham and Gridley). She has been on the Board of Education since June,1981. Brenda is married and has one son Noah. Brenda served as President for CCBE for the 1988-89 school year.

Dr. Ladd Johnson

Dr. Johnson is one of three Trustees of Area 1 (Chico). Retired professor emeritus Dr. Ladd Johnson brings decades of experience in education to his role as a trustee of the Board of Education. A Chico resident, Johnson began his educational career in 1956, retiring in 1987 as a professor of geography at California State University, Chico.

Jeannine MacKay

Jeannine is the Trustee of Area 3 (Paradise). She has been on the Board of Education since June, 2002. Jeannine has been involved in education for a number of years. She is married and has four children and two grandchildren.

Roger Steel

Roger is Trustee to Area 1 (Chico). Roger, a Pleasant Valley High School 1967 graduate, spent a year studying at UC Davis, majoring in pre-med. After a transfer to UC Berkeley, he switched majors and earned a degree in Conservation of Natural Resources, where he also earned his elementary teaching credential. His master's degree in education came while he was working in Lassen County and attending Chico State University. He has worked at Forest Ranch, John McManus, Chapman and Sierra View elementary schools, and became Superintendent/Principal at Gerber Union Elementary. Before retirement he was Superintendent of Nevada City School District. He retired in 2009 after being named Nevada County Superintendent of the Year in 2008-09. He is married to Suzanne, also a teacher, and they have two children, Barbara and Zachary.

Betty Vassar

Betty is a Trustee of Area 2 (Oroville), and has been a member of the Board of Education since 1990. She is a graduate of UCLA and has a masters degree in Administration. She retired from teaching and educational administration after thirty years of service. Betty has two children and lives in Oroville.

Mike Walsh

Mike is a Trustee of Area 2 (Oroville). He, along with his three sons are graduates of Las Plumas High School. He and his wife are business owners and have worked in education since 1992. Mike is also currently completing his Master's degree in Organizational Management.
