Four Winds School

2008-2009 School Calendars
Grades K-12 Apprx. 120 students

Four Winds provides students in grades K-12 with educational opportunities of the highest quality in an academic environment that recognizes the culture of the student as fundamental to education.  By recognizing academic, social and cultural needs, by improving relationships between home and school, by implementing new and effective teaching strategies and by developing a curriculum that integrates both general and cultural content, students overcome their educational deficiencies, make significant improvement in their academic achievement and envision themselves as successful people.

Students are offered a daily instructional program that replicates the Montessori method of curriculum and instruction.  Students learn through exploration with emphasis upon child-choice, consequences, respect and decision-making.  Students work at their own developmental level to ensure learning experiences are meaningful and positively reinforcing.  Four Winds implements a standards-based curriculum for grades K-3 as required by California Department of Education.

For students in grades 4-9, Four Winds offers a daily instructional program that aligns teaching methods to individual learning styles of students.  The learning styles inventory enhances the ability of the teacher to respond to the cognitive, physiological, sociological and cultural aspects of learning.  Teachers prescribe individualized instructional plans to increase student achievement.  Four Winds implements a standards-based curriculum for grades 4-9 as required by California Department of Education.

Four Winds offers an Independent Study program for grades 8-12.  The Independent Study program provides an Individualized  Education Plan for each student that meets the curricular objectives and fulfills the graduation requirements for students whose needs may be best met through study outside the regular classroom setting.  Students develop individualized learning goals to reach their full potential as functional, self-sufficient people.
